The Finite Sample Performance of Semiand Nonparametric Estimators for Treatment Effects and Policy Evaluation This paper investigates the finite sample performance of a comprehensive set of semiand nonparametric estimators for treatment and policy evaluation. In contrast to previous simulation studies which mostly considered semiparametric approaches relying on parametric propensity score estimation, we also consider more flexible approaches based on semior nonparametric propensity scores, nonparametric regression, and direct covariate matching. In addition to (pair, radius, and kernel) matching, inverse probability weighting, regression, and doubly robust estimation, our studies also cover recently proposed estimators such as genetic matching, entropy balancing, and empirical likelihood estimation. We vary a range of features (sample size, selection into treatment, effect heterogeneity, and correct/misspecification) in our simulations and find that several nonparametric estimators by and large outperform commonly used treatment estimators using a parametric propensity score. Nonparametric regression, nonparametric doubly robust estimation, nonparametric IPW, and one-to-many covariate matching perform best. JEL Classification: C21

The Negative Binomial Distribution Efficiency in Finite Mixture of Semi-parametric Generalized Linear Models
Introduction Selection the appropriate statistical model for the response variable is one of the most important problem in the finite mixture of generalized linear models. One of the distributions which it has a problem in a finite mixture of semi-parametric generalized statistical models, is the Poisson distribution. In this paper, to overcome over dispersion and computational burden, finite ...
متن کاملThe Synchronization of Business Cycles among Iran’s Trade Partners
In recent years, investigating synchronization of business cycles among countries, after increasing integration of global economies, has been attracted more attention of policy makers and researchers. Perhaps an unknown origin of such similarities, as an open question, is the main reason of these interests. So, with regard to the mentioned question, the aim of this paper is to investigate some ...
متن کاملTwo-step Smoothing Estimation of the Time-variant Parameter with Application to Temperature Data
‎In this article‎, ‎we develop two nonparametric smoothing estimators for parameter of a time-variant parametric model‎. ‎This parameter can be from any parametric family or from any parametric or semi-parametric regression model‎. ‎Estimation is based on a two-step procedure‎, ‎in which we first get the raw estimate of the parameter at a set of disjoint time...
متن کاملAsymptotic Behaviors of Nearest Neighbor Kernel Density Estimator in Left-truncated Data
Kernel density estimators are the basic tools for density estimation in non-parametric statistics. The k-nearest neighbor kernel estimators represent a special form of kernel density estimators, in which the bandwidth is varied depending on the location of the sample points. In this paper, we initially introduce the k-nearest neighbor kernel density estimator in the random left-truncatio...
متن کاملAn Application of Non-response Bias Reduction Using Propensity Score Methods
In many statistical studies some units do not respond to a number or all of the questions. This situation causes a problem called non-response. Bias and variance inflation are two important consequences of non-response in surveys. Although increasing the sample size can prevented variance inflation, but cannot necessary adjust for the non-response bias. Therefore a number of methods ...
